CAROLINA ALVAREZ MONSALVE

My first experience as a teacher…. My experience as a primary school teacher at Camilo Lamadrid Fabra school was very interesting, significant and challenging because I had no experience on teaching also, I consider that I learnt as much from my little students as they learnt from me as I grow up as a person and as a professional. At the beginning of the practice, I felt really nervous and anxious as I did not have experience. In spite of I was previously informed about the situation of this group, which was considered very difficult to work with, I decided to take the risk. In some cases I felt frustrated about teaching at this course as was very difficult to deal due to, the physical environment was not appropriate so they got distracted very easy, there were many conflicts between the students and the most concerning aspect was the evident discipline problem that made me feel insecure about working as a teacher in the future. However, as time passed, I began to feel more comfortable and less nervous when teaching also; I learnt how to deal with children, to know what they prefer, how to catch their attention and to motivate them to participate actively. To achieve these goals, I had to reflect about my behavior, the strategies I used, and implement different kinds of methodologies and activities according to their needs and likes.
